Abstract

A discrete model of the arterial circulatory system has been obtained from measurements of blood pressure taken during the diastolic period by means of the recursive technique. The method is simple and suitable for on-line model identification. It is shown that the minimum realization may not be possible due to inaccuracy in the measurements. A method of obtaining a reduced order model is suggested. Additional measurements could easily be accommodated. The discrete model is useful for identifying heart disease or disorder and also to investigate the effects of drugs.
