Abstract

Abstract In this paper, we describe ‘Multi-Cooperator’, a general-purpose infrastructure of groupware based on our multi-agent model of communication. This model defines an agent as any component of group work. This includes knowledge required for cooperative work, documents passed among agents, and the users themselves. This paper also presents an agent description language called MDL (Multi-Cooperator Description Language), and describes how it is implemented. Furthermore, we also present useful applications of Multi-Cooperator such as questionnaire handling. We conclude that an integration of methodologies in ergonomics and computer science is necessary to formulate good design principles for CSCW systems.
