Abstract

In this work, we briefly review polymeric and nanoparticle-based multilayer photonic crystals fabricated on flexible substrates. We discuss the possibility to use the transfer matrix method to simulate and analyse the optical properties of the multilayer photonic crystals. We include a simple algorithm of the transfer matrix method in three different programming languages. We give some examples of polymeric and inorganic photonic crystals and we discuss some applications of these structures, such as sensing and light emission control.
