Abstract

The conceptual design of a Free Electron Maser amplifier operating at 30–50GHz will be presented. The device, to be built at TRW during 1986, will operate in an extremely high gain regime. The models predict output powers in the 300KW range with the possibility of wide tunability (60%) and large bandwidth (10%). The design makes use of moderate system parameters (electron beam current ≃ 10A, energy ≃ 400kV, emittance ≃ 50π mm mrad) and beam prebunching to guarantee operation on the TE 01 mode.
