Abstract

Recent work on the understanding and numerical modeling of the transport of fine-grained sediments in near-shore areas of lakes, estuaries, and oceans is discussed. The presentation is concerned not only with the transport of sediments in the overlying water but also with the interactions between the bottom sediments and the overlying water. In particular, a quantitative model of the entrainment and deposition of fine-grained sediments is proposed.
