Abstract

The formation and growth of layers of intermetallic phases at joints of different metals is a common problem with many aspects. One of them is also the kinetics of growth of the layers. The present model based on application of the thermodynamic extremal principle accounts for the intensity of sources and sinks for vacancies in the interfaces and in the bulk. Simulations indicate that the sources and sinks influence the kinetics of the system significantly.
