Abstract

The ambient air concentration of PCDD/F emitted from municipal waste incinerators in the Osaka metropolitan area was assessed by an atmospheric dispersion model with real emission data. The PCDD/F concentrations measured in soil samples were compared with predictions from model and the results correlated. Observations in 2,3,7,8-substituted congener pattern of soil samples collected from different sites indicate consistent composition and somewhat systematic changes from the combustion source profile to the depository profile. These observations correlated with observations reported in previous photolytic transformation studies.
