Abstract

Social media has undeniably changed the scope and nature of scholarly work. Via Twitter, surgeons have an easily accessible platform for communicating with and influencing a large open community without academic editorial or peer review. Traditional academic advancement predicated upon publication prowess is being challenged by the development of altmetrics that quantify the impact of social media activity. In this study, we compare vascular surgeons' use of these two platforms.
