Abstract

The process of generating machining data is based on the translation of product description data into machine control commands. In other words, computer-manufactured machining data is produced from input product data using manufacturing environment data; a process known as virtual manufacturing. The use of manufacturing environment data is described here as virtual manufacturing devices (VMD). In this paper, in order to achieve accurate automatic machining preparation, a machining data generation system based on the above virtual manufacturing concept is proposed. VMD is the most important component in this machining data generation system. The general framework of VMD consists of a component model and a process model. As an example of VMD, modeling of milling machine is explained, and milling data generation system using this virtual milling machine is introduced.
