Abstract

To the Editor: Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the nail caused by dermatophytes, nondermatophyte molds, and yeasts. It accounts for half of all nail diseases, with toenails more commonly affected than fingernails.1 Oral medications are often used, although topical therapy may be preferred due to a favorable adverse effect profile. Ciclopirox 8% nail lacquer, efinaconazole 10% solution, and tavaborole 5% solution are approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of onychomycosis.
