Abstract

Based on generalized transmission line equations a novel impedance/admittance transformation algorithm with finite differences is proposed and substantiated. The algorithm is of second order accuracy. It is combined with the Method of Lines. The algorithm is suitable for eigenmode calculations and for the analysis of optical waveguides and devices including anisotropic materials. The proposed algorithm is verified by numerical results for rib waveguide and azimuthally inhomogeneous fibres.
