Abstract

The latest advances in additive manufacturing have opened the door to the production of objects with irregular shapes or previously impossible to manufacture. In addition, the use of intelligent materials has been linked to these developments, capable of adopting programmed behaviors with minimal human interference. Below is a further step in this new paradigm, introducing natural geometric shapes taking advantage of the geometric freedom that this technology provides. This modeling together with the use of intelligent materials represents an approach to natural life, since it not only imitates form but also behavior. In this article, both the possible geometric design methodology is exposed, the intelligent materials that can be used through additive manufacturing, since until now not all of these materials available on the market can be used. Finally, the design procedures for manufacturing are presented, as well as the potential uses of this entire system, some of which are already being implemented.
