Abstract

This article presents an equivalent circuit modeling method for the impedance calculation of the loaded power distribution network (PDN). The topology of the proposed equivalent circuit is based on the modal field analysis of the PDN, so that the elements in the circuit possess certain physical meaning. The element values in the equivalent circuit are extracted from a circuit perspective. Using the proposed equivalent circuit and the interpolation method, the calculation efficiency of the proposed method is greatly improved. Compared with the traditional mode method which is limited for the modeling of the regular-shaped PDN, the proposed equivalent circuit method can be used for the modeling of both grid-type and plane PDNs with nonuniform, irregular-shaped, and shorting via-loaded structures. To verify the accuracy of the proposed equivalent circuit, two different samples are simulated and fabricated, and the impedance obtained from the measurement shows good agreements with that obtained from the proposed method.
