Abstract

ABSTRACT BATCH extraction of peanut oil with liquid carbon dioxide in a fixed bed is described with several models. Equations to describe oil extraction kinetics are presented. In addition to being dependent on temperature and pressure, the extraction rate curves are shown to be dependent on oilseed particle size. The oil concentration gradient in the bed is fitted to a solid/liquid chromatographic column model. The minimum length of bed needed to keep a continuous system operating at its optimum rate is estimated by the method of a breakthrough curve.
