Abstract

The accident caused by the wind deflection of the suspension insulator string should not be underestimated, and the reclosing rate after the wind deflection trip is low. It is of great significance to study the wind deflection of the suspension insulator string. From the statistics of trip accidents of 220kv and above transmission lines in Hubei Province, it can be seen that wind deflection is one of the main causes of trip accidents, and whether wind deviation causes tripping is determined to rainfall. Based on the rigid body model of the suspension insulator string, the wind deflection angle is calculated to obtain the critical minimum gap for the discharge of the conductor to the tower member in this work, considering the rainfall intensity correction to the allowable minimum gap. Last but not least, a practical case represents the accuracy and practicality of the model. The suspension insulator string wind deflection model under wind and rain load is beneficial to analyze the wind deflection accident of the overhead transmission line which contributes to the wind deflection prevention design and the strong power grid construction. This work describes models for the wind velocity time–histories of transient tornado and storm events leading tothe result transmission line load.
