Abstract

The discharge from an elecrified wire to a GMR head is studied from the aspect of charge transfer. In order to clarify the damage to the GMR head, the discharge current waveform and the current through the sensor were studied. The discharge from a wire to a capacitance device was measured as a function of both capacitance value and wire length. The charge separation into the GMR sensor and two terminals was measured using a circuit model of the GMR head. The current through the sensor of the GMR head was approximately 1/3 of the total discharge current. A PSPICE simulation was used to simulate the waveform.
