Abstract
A set of 2D-finite differential calculations of momentum and heat transfer for liquid-encapsulated Czochralski (LEC) growth of large diameter (75 mm) GaAs crystals was carried out. The analyses assume a pseudosteady axisymmetric state with laminar flows. Particular attention was paid to the forced convection effects in the Taylor–Proudman column close to the curved crystallization front, the shape of which remarkably affects the structure and properties of crystals. Temperature profile, velocity field and the stabilizing effect of the Coriolis force generated by the crucible rotation were numerically investigated. The profound influence of the Benard–Marangoni instability on the components of velocity field as well as the convexity of the solid–melt interface was studied.
