Abstract

ABSTRACT A simple mathematical model for predicting the milk flow rate from the dairy cow's teat has been devel-oped. The equation for prediction of flow rate uses as in-puts the pressure differential (sinusoidal or constant) across the streak canal, and the streak canal diameter assumed proportional to external teat end diameter changes. Turbulent flow was assumed and physical properties of milk are included. The model has also been ap-plied to predict the effective streak canal diameter based on measured teat milk flow rates using a teat chamber.
