Abstract

A FE-CA (Finite Element-Cellular Automaton) model is built to simulate the microstructure evaluation during laser welding of DP600 high strength steel. A moving conical heat source is performed in ABAQUS to achieve temperature field during welding. A linear interpolation method is used to transfer node temperature of ABAQUS to cell temperature of Cellular Automaton. With the consideration of temperature and solute concentration, the solidification of DP600 after weld is simulated. The established FE-CA model can simulate 2D equiaxed and column dendrite grain growth. The competitive growth between different dendrite arms is presented. The weld microstructure simulation result shows good agreement with experiment results.
