Abstract
The data used for Figures 3–10 are available in the supporting information Table S1. The GIC data were obtained from the South African power utility, ESKOM. Interested per-sons could contact the authors for details of the current contact person at ESKOM. The results presented in this paper rely on the data collected at the HER and HBK observatories. We thank SANSA for supporting their operation and INTERMAGNET for promoting high standards of magnetic observatory practice (www.intermagnet.org).
