Abstract
The mechanobiome consists of a meshwork of macromolecules that determines cellular mechanical properties and enables mechanosensation, facilitating shape-change processes such as proliferation, polarization, migration, and cancer metastasis. Myosin II and cortexillin I, critical elements of the mechanobiome, pre-assemble in the cytoplasm into complexes known as mechano-contractility kits (MCKs). IQGAP scaffolding proteins regulate the mechano-responsiveness of the cortexillin I-myosin II elements within MCKs.
