Abstract

A model for prediction of electrolyte film thickness under dynamic environmental conditions is presented. The film thickness is influenced by environmental factors such as relative humidity and temperature. The effects of relative humidity and air temperature, their time rates, salt load density, substrate material, and heat transfer coefficient on the film thickness are studied. A model for prediction of corrosion of AA7075-T6 under dynamic film thickness is also presented. The model can capture the trend of corrosion rate for a given relative humidity and temperature history. The model predictions are compared with experimental data in the literature. Good agreements are observed.
