Abstract

Power system stability is a major concern owing to the severe complexity of modern power systems resulting from large number of interconnections, high voltage tie line operations, additional generating installations etc. This paper presents an overview of the general type of FACTS controllers and also presents in detail the modeling and simulation of Thyristor Controlled Series Compensator (TCSC) which is widely used FACTS controller for series compensation in SIMULINK. The TCSC Controller is designed and implemented in multi machine power system and the result obtained shows that the proposed TCSC controller structure is very effective in damping low frequency oscillations and enhancing transient stability of the given system. The FACTS controller introduces a `flexible' operation to the power system model under study and enhances system performances.
