Abstract

Sound energy is the primary method of detecting and locating submarines and mines. The study of the propagation of sound waves in sea water is the most important issue in assessing sonar systems performances. The variation of the sound speed in the marine environment radically influences the propagation paths of the acoustic signals. This paper presents a modeling and simulation model of hydro-acoustic signal propagation for a specific sound speed profile from the Romanian Black Sea shore.
