Abstract
Conical roll bending with noncompatible conical rolls is less expensive than that with compatible conical rolls. However, the process still can not adapt to all desired cone radii and the manufacturing of such rolls is more expensive than that of cylindrical rolls. This paper presents the modeling of conical roll bending with cylindrical rolls, in which the sliding of the rolls over the plate section is allowed. Investigations of the influence of the sliding on the bending quality are carried out. Numerical simulations based on finite element method are performed with commercial software ANSYS LS-DYNA. The results agree well with those obtained with noncompatible and compatible conical rolls.
