Abstract

Due to the constant growth of the demand for electric energy that is continuously recorded in the distribution networks, and the operational problems that this entails, the companies responsible for supplying energy must have appropriate analysis techniques to efficiently solve this problem. This suggests that it is necessary to implement modern technologies in the management of distribution systems capable of providing alternatives for decision making in a fast and economically viable manner supported by periodic studies with technical and economic bases. This work summarizes the first stage of the implementation of ETAP 18.1.0 Electrical Power System Analysis, software used for the study of the Villarrica distribution network carried out by the Compañía de Luz y Fuerza S.A. (CLYFSA), company in charge of the supply of electrical energy in the city of Villarrica since 1953 and currently has more than 14.000 users. The software is used for the modeling of the entire medium voltage electrical distribution system (including public and exclusive transformers, capacitor bank, pre-assembled and protected distribution lines, etc.) and then perform simulations for different operating states of the system and loading conditions These simulations in turn are used to evaluate the decision making of alternatives that improve the reliability and robustness of the electrical system in such a way to improve the quality of service.
