Abstract

A new zero current switched (ZCS) high power factor rectifier for power factor correction is proposed. The proposed single phase rectifier enables zero current switching operation of all the power devices allowing the circuit to operate at high switching frequencies and high power levels. A dynamic model and a predictive current control technique for the ZCS high power factor rectifier are proposed. With the proposed dynamic model, an analysis for the internal operational characteristics is explored. Based on this analysis, a predictive current control technique is developed and its advantages over the other types of current control techniques are discussed. With the proposed control technique, unity power factor and greatly reduced line current harmonics can be obtained. >
