Abstract

In this study, two forced circulation solar water heating systems with and without a heat exchanger inside the storage tank were analyzed by numerical simulations. The time-dependent water temperature inside the storage tanks and effects of the area of heat exchanger on the thermal performance of systems by the use of numerical calculations were presented, and the various control strategies for circulating pumps of the systems was compared. A forced solar water heating system with a heat exchanger was built and experimentally examined, and the experimental verification of the model proposed in this study was also made. Finally, a comparison on the thermal efficiency of both systems was performed.
