Abstract

This paper focuses on modeling and control of solar power fed DC-DC Single Ended Primary Inductor Converter (SEPIC) using cascade control strategy with an outer Genetic Algorithm (GA) based Proportional Integral (PI) Controller and an inner Non Linear Carrier (NLC) control. To attain the maximum power of the Solar Panel / PhotoVoltaic (PV) panel, Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) scheme using Incremental Conductance (IC) method is employed because of its high tracking accuracy in extremely variable weather conditions. Extensive simulation studies have been carried out by using MATLAB/SIMULINK software tool. The results prove that the NLC control can track the reference voltage with less settling time for the load variations and track the set point effectively for the variation in irradiation levels and temperatures.
