Abstract
Due to many merits such as controllability, high energy efficiency and improved power quality, Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) can be utilized to significantly increase the energy capture. The power converter in such wind turbine only deals with power and the converter rating can be kept fairly low, approximately 30% of the total machine power. Smart grid functions more intelligently to facilitate autonomous control actions to improve reliability by designing smart controllers, integration of renewable resources, and integration of all types of energy storage to counter the variability of renewable resources, reductions voltage sags as well as other disturbances. In this paper, modeling of a wind power generation unit connected with grid using a DFIG driven by the rotor has been employed. A twelve bus multi machine system is taken as the test system integrated with the 400 MW wind farm is used. Controllers for reactive and active power between the stator and grid using vector control technique with classical PI controller and fuzzy controllers are designed in this paper.
