Abstract

The authors present colored Petri net models of information flows in a computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) system. Three important subsystems of CIM are considered: manufacturing resource planning (MRP), process planning, and shop floor control. They model the required functionality of each subsystem using IDEF0, which provides a static modeling method for the information flows. From these IDEF0 models, colored Petri net models are created for the analysis and control of information flows for a CIM system. In these colored Petri nets, some transitions that are macro transitions can be easily refined by specific control strategies. >
