Abstract

The dual-sided permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM) has the advantages of high thrust density. Air-cored PMLSM has advantages of zero iron loss, zero cogging force and zero attraction force between moving part and stationary part of the motor. A novel topology of air-cored long stator PMLSM which has an asymmetrical two-layer dual-sided permanent magnet (PM) was proposed in this paper. Flux distribution of the two-layer dual-sided PM Halbach array was analyzed by 2-D finite element method (FEM), and the thrust characteristics of air-cored PMLSM with two-layer dual-sided Halbach array was studied. Parameters of dual-sided secondary PM Halbach array was analyzed to optimize the design.
