Abstract
Wireless power transfer (WPT) is a promising technology to supply power in applications where physical contact is not available. Current harmonics in the system can cause problems in the operation of switches and the control of the circuit. This paper proposes a methodology to obtain an explicit analytical expression for total harmonic distortion of primary and secondary current in a series-series (SS) WPT system. The theoretical model of a SS WPT system is presented for each harmonic frequency. Using the proposed methodology, current harmonic distortion of a series-series WPT system is analyzed, and results are presented, to demonstrate how the current harmonic distortion can be minimized through appropriate selection of secondary coil and load. The analysis results show that the primary and secondary current total harmonic distortion are only related with the inductance of secondary coil, the load, and the coupling factor in a series-series WPT system. A prototype has been built and tested experimentally to validate the proposal.
