Abstract

This paper is focused on analysis of various parameters in drilling of Al/SiC metal matrix composites and Al/SiC/Gr hybrid composites. Metal matrix and Hybrid matrix composites are finding various applications in many engineering fields. Particularly, Aluminium hybrid Metal Matrix composites are finding increased applications because of their improved tribological and mechanical properties and hence they are better substitutes for single reinforced metal matrix composites. In this study Square slabs of size 100mm × 100mm × 10mm are fabricated by stir casting method and subsequently drilled using CNC vertical machining center. Experiments were conducted as per Taguchi’s techniques with L27 orthogonal arrays using Carbide tipped tool. A model is developed to correlate various parameters with surface roughness and thrust force using response surface methodology. The influencing factor on each response is also determined using analysis of variance.
