Abstract

The focus of this study is on partial discharge inception voltage and partial discharge delay time fluctuations that are directly related to the physical properties of insulating materials. We model the partial discharge mechanism and investigate the relationship between various partial discharge characteristics. By considering these two fluctuations as parameters, an integral equation representing the partial discharge characteristics is derived. The validity of the integral equation through the experiments of partial discharge characteristics obtained using a needle-plane (NP) electrode system and Monte Carlo simulations that simulate a defective part in an actual power apparatus.
