Abstract

This study has developed a multi-layer model to estimate concentration gradients inside aerosol and aerosol growth. The results show that piperazine (PZ) aerosol grows from 0.1 um to 3.2μm in the absorber and up to 9.6μm in the water wash with 107 particles/cm3. Aerosol can be assumed to be well-mixed in the absorber and water wash. The PZ gradient in the aerosol is negligible because of the small aerosol diameter. Larger particle number concentration results in smaller drops. Aerosol growth is controlled by PZ mass transfer in the absorber and by water mass transfer in the water wash. More volatile amine should provide faster growth in the absorber.
