Abstract

Abstract A system theoretic methodology is described for planning the food processing and distribution sector in developing countries. A network based computer modeling system has been implemented that can be used to evaluate the existing agricultural and food processing sector and to plan its future development. The descriptor variable approach is used for determining first the steady state flow of commodities through the network and then for evaluating resource use. The model is operational and has been used for the detailed analysis of wheat processing in Yugoslavia.
