Abstract

The problem of the propagation of deformations and stresses in a thin fiber under a dynamic mechanical load, as well as the destruction of the fiber, is considered. High-speed interactions in which the striker’s speed is comparable to the speed of sound in the fiber are considered. The numerical results are compared with an analytical solution for a point impact. Various loading modes are calculated for the distributed load on the fiber that cause significantly different types of deformations and destruction.
