POTTER THE AUTHOR: was born in the City of New York and was trained in engineering at Columbia and Johns Hopkins Universities. In addition to five years in the chemical and shipbuilding fields, he has had fifteen years of experience in research and teaching at the university level. He has had academic assignments at Johns Hopkins University and at the University of Illinois. Since 1953 he has been Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Stevens Institute of Technology.
