Abstract

A Steam turbine is a device which extracts thermal energy from pressurized steam and uses it to do mechanical work on a rotating output shaft. The control of a turbine with a governor is essential, as turbines need to prevent damage and some applications like generation of alternating current electricity require precise speed control. Tandem compound reheat steam turbine is introduced to increase the thermodynamic efficiency by multistage steam expansion. Adaptation of different controller like Feedback, PI, PID using certain adaptation techniques improves the performance of the system. This paper investigates Model Reference Adaptive Controller for speed control of Tandem compound reheat steam turbine using MIT Rule thus bringing up quick tracking and steady state control over the turbine speed.
