Abstract
The paper considers the computation of statistical characteristics of the response of a high-order linear vibration system to a random excitation. Since standard methods fail because of tremedous computational problems model reduction techniques are applied. We find approximations of the desired response characteristics of the high-order system by solving a “suitable” low-order system. Numerical results for the torsional random vibrations of a generator shaft are presented.
