Abstract

In 1986, the National Science Foundation called for proposals to fund model programs for the preparation of middle school science and/or mathematics teachers. This paper reflects the results of a descriptive case study of the programs. Principal investigators at eight of the nine schools selected to receive funding agreed to be part of the study. Two of the schools, Portland State University and Illinois State University, are not extensively profiled here because they dealt only with mathematics education.
