Abstract

The paper proposes model predictive current control (MPCC) strategy for the speed control of brushless doubly-fed reluctance motor (BDFRM) drive. For the decoupled control of torque/speed and flux, the primary field orientation strategy is included in the control mechanism. Improved and straightforward current control is achieved by replacing linear current controllers and pulse-width modulator with model predictive current controller. The proposed MPCC is compared with classical FOC approach of BDFRM drive concerning speed, torque ripple contents and transient response. The efficacy of the proposed method is verified by simulation study in MATLAB/Simulink.
