Abstract
A vehicle velocity calculation model of vehicle-pedestrian accident is established based on the impact dynamics of rectangular thin plate, according to the deflection of the windshield plate. Proper material parameters are given to windshield and pedestrian head respectively according to the specific situation of vehicle-pedestrian accident. Support type of windshield on the frame is considered as simplified support without affecting the accuracy of the model. During modeling, expression of impact force between head and windshield is suggested in the light of Hertz elastic contact theory and energy conservation law. In addition, the expression of windshield deflection is rewritten based on Navier theory and the relationship between impact velocity and windshield is abtained. Considering the quantitative relations between the impact velocity and vehicle velocity, a calculation model is finally put forward. Comparison with cases of actual vehicle-pedestrian accidents proves the accuracy and reliability of the model. Therefore, this model provides the accident investigators and researchers with a new method to reconstruct the vehicle velocity.
