Abstract

A theoretical model describing the surface magnetoelastic properties (`surface magnetostriction') in nanocrystalline materials is proposed. The model is based on the magnetic dipole–dipole interactions. The nonuniform medium consisting of perfect spherical crystalline grains in a magnetic environment of two structures (amorphous and crystalline) is considered. The calculations are limited to simple ferromagnets of high symmetry such as body centered cubic (BCC) and face centered cubic (FCC) crystals.
