Abstract

A a new approximate method of blocking probability calculations in the switching node carrying a mixture of different traffic streams, including multicast streams, is proposed. The problem of blocking evaluation in the ATM node is solved on the basis of a limited-availability group model. The results of analytical calculations are compared with the results of digital simulation of a switching node with three outgoing directions carrying multicast and unicast traffic streams. This research reveals the high accuracy of the proposed model. The formulae derived in this paper can be used in the analysis of B-ISDN systems.
