Abstract

Medicolegal death investigation laws throughout the United States are a hodgepodge. They reflect different systems and different evolutions and are generally incoherent and not up to date. A thoughtful review of existing statutes and a thoughtful analysis could produce model legislation that could be brought to the legislatures of all states and territories for consideration in whole or in part. This article discusses various issues and thoughts that should be deliberated during the formulation and crafting of such model legislation.
