Abstract

A statistical model was developed for calculating the integral effects, or the irreversible changes in thermoelectromotive force, of VR 5/20 tungsten-rhenium thermoelectric converters under the effects of fast and thermal neutron irradiation. The model is recommended for use in ranges of thermal and fast neutron fluxes and irradiation temperatures sufficient for practical purposes. The model determined that the influence of thermal neutrons on the integral effects was twice that of fast neutrons at low temperatures under identical fluxes and that thermal neutrons make the predominant contribution to the integral effects at high temperatures also. The adequacy and relative error of the model was evaluated.
