Abstract

One of the signaling modes in biological neurons is by means of postsynaptic potentials. Their characteristics are decisively influenced by the geometry of the neuron dendrites. Combining standard cable theory with the homogenization method, a “nonuniform equivalent cable model” of membrane voltage changes in an irregularly branching dendritic tree is obtained/ extending Rall's “equivalent cylinder model”.
