Abstract

The paper deals with the experimental determination of the buckling loads of rigid-jointed rectangular frames when the buckling occurs within the elastic range. A setup for carrying out the experiments using models manufactured out of plexiglass is described. The critical load of a model having nonprismatic members is determined experimentally to demonstrate the simplicity of the experimental method and to emphasize its advantages over the theoretical method when dealing with complex problems of this type.
